New striker: AC Milan looking at two names for January

AC Milan want to sign a new striker in January and the club is looking at two names to serve as Ibrahimovic’s back-up.

One of AC Milan’s main goals for the January transfer window will be to reinforce the attack with a new centre forward. In fact, the idea of signing a back-up for Ibrahimovic has never been abandoned. AC Milan need a natural centre forward who can allow the 39-year-old Swedish giant catch his breath, when and if necessary.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri management are following two names at the moment, both from foreign championships. The first name is that of Luka Jovic. The Real Madrid striker is an old target of the Rossoneri. The Serbian was approached Milan several months ago.

The 22-year-old wanted to stay in Spain and play his cards at Madrid for another season but things haven’t gone well so far. Real Madrid are willing to let him leave in January but only on loan. The obstacle in this case is represented by both the high salary of Jovic and the formula that does not convince Milan 100%.

As mentioned, Real would only give their player on loan, while the Rossoneri would at least want to have an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season if the player performs at San Siro.

The second alternative comes from Holland. Donyell Malen is establishing himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Europe despite being just 21-year-old. The PSV Eindhoven talent has scored 8 goals this season and has provided 3 assists in 13 appearances so far.

His agent, Mino Raiola, has offered Donyell Malen to AC Milan on a number of occasions. In recent talks with Raiola over the contract extension of Donnarumma, Malen’s name has popped up again. PSV rate their gem at around 30 million euros, an important figure for the Rossoneri.

Until now, Milan have opted for the internal solution. Initially it was Ante Rebic to play up front while this season Rafael Leao has been considered as Ibra’s replacement. It is unlikely that Pioli will continue to focus on Lorenzo Colombo, a little off the radar and destined for a loan in the second half of the season.
